Whilst at University for an International Business degree, Birgit Erath started a spice stall on Portobello Rd. In 1995 on finishing her degree Birgit found The Spice Shop on Blenheim Crescent and, blending and mixing herbs and spices to her own recipes her reputation as a spice trader grew. Today, The Spice Shop offers a range of over 2,500 products and it is the only shop of its type in the UK. Many chefs and famous TV cooks frequent the shop and draw upon Birgit's skills as a source of inspiration and recipe ideas.

Lunch and Chocolates are the specialities of this Dickensian store just opposite Spitalfields Market.
Verde & Co. stocks a range of very exclusive Italian foods, its fresh soups and generously sized sandwiches are to die for and the chocolates are from Belgian gourmet chocolatier Pierre Marcolini.
The shop is quite small, the service very personal (I guess like it used to be in Victorian London) and the atmosphere is uniquely quirky. Entering the shop is like stepping back in time and shopping there is a fantastical and magical experience because, as you enter, you soon find that the shop is definitely bigger inside that outside. Verde & Co. is an Aladdin's cave full of marvellous surprises and unique gourmet foods.
